Made in Saint-James, Normandy, France.

A military ruling in 1858 introduced the striped tee to the official wardrobe of quartermasters and sailors in the French Navy with its very specific characteristics: 21 white stripes measuring 20mm and 20 or 21 blue stripes measuring 10mm. The 20th century brought this nautical motif into the mainstream. Sailors in the Merchant Navy as well as fishermen and the boating community brought it onboard and it wasn’t long before it became a fashion must-have picked up by creatives and intellectuals (think Coco Chanel, Pablo Picasso). Ever since then, celebrities and fashion designers have turned it into a symbol of vintage French fashion – universal and timeless.

I have Saint James shirts in three different styles, and this one is my favorite. The shirt did not shrink after several washes (cold, no tumble dry); the cotton is very soft; the cut is beautiful, and the colors haven't faded after a year of wear. (Posted on 7/14/2020)

This is my go-to shirt for weekends when I go sailing in the sound. Many years ago, I bought my first Saint James shirt in Saint Malo, France, near their employee-owned atelier and have been a big fan ever since. Unmatched quality in fabrics and construction that really set it apart from the other Breton shirts out there. (Posted on 11/22/2019)

My Minquiers have been my favorite t-shirts for 5 years, and my first one is still in pristine condition... This is the real thing: fantastic quality, awesome fit, and the cotton is so light and soft! Being French, I started my collection in Paris, but I now leave in New York and I'm so happy to be able to find the new seasonal colors at the Bleecker St store! Vive la France ! (Posted on 5/7/2017)

Saint James mariniere is a timeless classic. The quality of the cotton is great and will last throughout the years. I own the neige/gitane and ecru/marine and I like to combine both shirts with a pair of jeans, blazer and sneakers for a laid back style or a skirt and heels for a day at work/night on the town style. I own four, different weights and colors but mainly navy/white or cream. I decided I need a black whit one today. MANY designers are offering their own versions of the t-ehirts and sweaters at high prices for SS 17. Better to stick with the classic. Good enough for Andy Warhol, David Bowie amongst others.
